Why Convert HEIF to WebP?

WebP offers excellent compression — often 25-35% smaller than JPG at the same visual quality — while maintaining broad browser and platform support. It's an ideal format for web publishing and online sharing.

Unlike HEIF/HEIC, WebP is natively supported across all major browsers, Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, and iOS. Converting your HEIF files to WebP eliminates compatibility issues while keeping excellent image quality.

WebP supports both lossy and lossless compression, transparency (alpha channels), and even animation. For web use cases, it's often the best all-around format choice.

Every conversion happens locally in your browser using WebAssembly. Your images are never uploaded to any server. No account required, no data stored.

How HEIF to WEBP Conversion Works

This converter uses libheif compiled to WebAssembly to decode HEIF/HEIC files. The decoded pixel data is rendered to an HTML5 Canvas and exported as WebP using the browser's native Canvas API.

WebP quality can be adjusted from 0.1 to 1.0. The default of 0.92 provides an excellent balance between file size and visual quality for most images.

All processing happens client-side. No files are uploaded to any server. Both .heif and .heic extensions are processed identically by the same WASM decoder.
